Last Thursday I went to Bossman’s workplace to go over retirement papers and sign them. He works at a coal fired power plant. Once years and years ago we went to a family day there and got the grand tour and learned how power was made. They don’t do that anymore. It was nice seeing where he works and he took me to his shop and introduced me to all the guys I hear about all the time and didn’t have faces to put to the names. I took a few pictures of the plant and thought you might like to see them.
I saw an article in the Guardian paper in the UK the other day and it was titled ‘Abandoned by the Coal Industry a Small Appalachian Town Turns to Drugs’. That really angered me. The coal industry didn’t ‘abandon’ them, our government did, it is on a mission to close down all the coal mines and all the coal fired power plants. Putting thousands out of work and raising our energy costs. In most Appalachian areas coal mining is the only source of work and its decimating these areas. Word is Bossman’s power plant will be closing in 2017, not sure if thats true or not, but some of the plants have been closing so it’s probably true. Nuclear plants are a danger too and the one huge solar plant we have here is killing thousands of birds that fly over it. Maybe it’s time to go back to candles.
