New Used Book Additions

I promised you a list of the books I recently acquired during our trip to Lake Erie so here you go…

Love Over Scotland by Alexander McCall Smith, third in the 44 Scotland Street series
Detection Unlimited by Georgette Heyer
The Patient in Cabin C by Mignon G. Eberhart
The Nine Wrong Answers and The Corpse in the Waxworks both by John Dickson Carr
and three by Arthur W. Upfield, a new author for me!
The Mountains Have a Secret , Death of a Swagman, and An Author Bites the Dust

Also 3 books not pictured as I’ve already loaned them out…
In the Heart of the Sea by Nathaniel Philbrick
Mayflower by Nathaniel Philbrick
Star of the Sea by Joseph O’Connor

Friday we went to a local Flea Market and I picked up these two for a dime a piece…
No Love Lost by Margery Allingham
Charlie Chan Carries On by Earl Derr Biggers

This is why I gave up doing reading challenges that involve reading whats on your TBR shelfs!

Have you read any of these and what did you think if you did?

  1. Peggy, I have Death of a Swagman on the pile – not got there yet though!

Re your Scottish authors – have you ever heard of or tried Denzil Meyrick? Might be interesting for you if you fancy some crime! He's another on my stacks but not yet tried.

  2. Col, I am aware of Meyrick, follow him on Facebook actually, but have not gotten my hands on any of his books yet! They do sound good. I've seen reviews for Upfield around on the blogs and am hopeful for those books to be good too.

  3. I've read The Corpse in the Waxworks and a lot of other John Dickson Carr books. I like him. I've read four of the Charlie Chan books, but not the one you have (although I have it, too). I like the books better than the movies, but I like the earlier movies, too, before they got too campy. I've read a lot of Margery Allingham, but not this one. I thought I'd read an Arthur Upfield, but I don't have any on my 'Books Read' list. What a great bunch of books you got! Go lie in the hammock and enjoy the last of summer!

  4. Joan, I like John Dickson Carr too and have read quite a few of his and always pick them up when I come across them anywhere. I've seen the Charlie Chan movies and didn't care for them that much so have never read any of the books but see good reviews on the blogs so for a dime, I thought what the heck give it a go! Believe it or not I've only read one Allingham! Liked it though and have several on the shelf.

Thats all I'm going to do today is read too! Although I don't have a hammock to lie in ;(

  5. Great haul Peggy.
You should try to read the Scotland Street series in order as they'll make more sense that way. I've not read any of your other books, but I like Heyer, Allimgham and Eberhart, not forgetting John Dickson Carr!
